A PROPOS DE DEATHROES

Information: Gerritt (aka Gerritt Wittmer).

Gerritt Wittmer has been recording music as Gerritt since 1996. In 1998 he created the Misanthropic Agenda label and released the compilation Sadomachinism CD (MAR000) featuring the first Gerritt track to be released,"Time Has Come". A couple of years later Misanthropic Agenda released the Bastard Noise/Gerritt split 7 inch (MAR002). In the following years Gerritt focused on his own recordings and taking the label to new heights. Misanthropic Agenda released the series of Merzbow Frog related releases (MAR003, MAR004, MAR006) including Merzbow-Frog "Remixed and Revisited" 2xCD featuring a remix by Gerritt, "Frog Inside Hypercube".

In the summer of 2003 Gerritt did an extremely successful west coast tour with John Wiese. The pacific northwest portion saw D. Yellow Swans joining the tour for several shows. A special unplanned show occurred in Seattle when the doom/ambient metal super group Sunn0))) asked Gerritt to play as a member for a night.

Spring of 2004 Gerritt toured the north east US. On this tour he played a live collaboration set with Stephen O'Malley on guitar (Sunn0))), Khanate, Lotus Eaters, etc..), and Tim Wyskida (Khanate) on Timpani drums and Gong! The recording from this event was released as: Ginnungagap "Return to Nothing" (MAR009).

In the summer of 2004 Gerritt moved to California, currently residing in Oakland/San Francisco. Also, in 2004, Gerritt and John Wiese both joined up with SunnO))) again for a show in San Francisco. On MLK Jr. day, 2004 Gerritt teamed up with Axolotl and D. Yellow Swans for a collaboration that was recorded and later released on the Jyrk label.

In 2005 Gerritt appeared on the LHD "Triple Void" 12" with John Wiese and Phil Blankenship. P-Tapes released the Gerritt "Chill Pill" 3". Gerritt appears on and helped mix the D. Yellow Swans, "Psychic Secession" CD/LP. Misanthropic Agenda released the John Wiese produced, Gerritt "Space Level Blaze" CD. (MAR010) In 2006 Gerritt did a successful west coast tour with Sixes/Jason Zeh/2673. Misanthropic Agenda released the Gerritt & John Wiese "Disappearing act" CD and Troniks released the Gerritt "Infernal Devices" LP. The super group DEATHROES consisting of Gerritt and Sixes (aka Ryan Jenks) was formed.

In 2007 Deathroes released there debut CD "Hate Fuck" on Troniks, and debut vinyl LP, "Final Expense" on No Fun Productions/Misanthropic Agenda. Misanthropic Agenda also released the Gerritt "Proof of Powers" LP just before DEATHROES embarked on a full US tour wich included playing at the No Fun Fest in Brooklyn. The latest Misanthropic

A PROPOS DE PAPIER TIGRE

2006

PAPIER TIGRE naît à Nantes et se compose d’Eric Pasquereau (guitare / voix), Arthur de la Grandière (guitare) et Pierre-Antoine Parois (batterie), qui ont joué ensemble puis séparément dans plusieurs projets dont les remarqués Room 204, The Patriotic Sunday et Argument. Sans basse, le son du groupe est construit autour d’une batterie puissante aux rythmiques parfois tribales et de deux guitares tour à tour agressives ou silencieuses qui entourent la voix insistante d’Eric Pasquereau.

2007

En février, sort le 1er album, ‘Papier Tigre’. Pour la presse, leur musique construit un pont entre le rock des années 90 (Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, The Ex) et les expérimentations sonores de groupes actuels comme Liars ou Battles. En fin d’année, après une cinquantaine de dates, dont une participation aux Transmusicales de Rennes et une première partie de Battles (Warp) à Lyon, PAPIER TIGRE aura parcouru 9 pays d’Europe (Belgique, Pays-Bas, Allemagne, Danemark, République Tchèque, Autriche, Slovénie, Italie) et sillonné la France avec le soutien de 'la tournée des Trans'.

2008

En Janvier, le groupe part en Chine pour une tournée de 3 semaines (1er album en licence sur Wangba records) puis enchaîne avec le Royaume-Uni et l’Irlande pour la même durée en Février. Mai, PAPIER TIGRE participe aux prestigieuses All Tomorrow’s Parties à Minehead (UK), invité par Explosions In The Sky. Début août, une tournée exceptionnelle est organisée au Brésil par ABRAFIN (la plus importante association de festivals de musiques indépendantes au Brésil) et le label de Goinia, Monstro discos publie le 1er album en licence sur le territoire. Fin août, le groupe rejoint les French Cowboys (FR) et The Solace Brothers (US) pour une tournée de 3 semaines aux Etats-Unis et au Mexique. Entre ces deux tournées ‘américaines’, PAPIER TIGRE enregistre ‘The beginning and end of now’, son deuxième album, au studio Black Box avec Iain Burgess.

Musicalement, le groupe s’ouvre à de nouvelles influences, sans renier une dynamique et une énergie rock. La rythmique gagne en souplesse ; plus hypnotique, elle dessine un tunnel tout en virages dans lequel serpentent des guitares ‘reptiliennes’. ‘The beginning and end of now’ pose son regard sur un monde obsédé par l’immédiateté. …
